Hello!
I'm Jeff.
I started the Revit Kid mainly to help my peers. I remember when I first began learning Revit there were very few online resources to help someone learn it. There was also a limited amount of video style tutorials. I bought books and tried learning that way but it just wasn't the way I learned. So I created this website to teach you about Revit and BIM abroad the way I wish I was taught... Through easy to follow, and to the point, video tutorials.
I am extremely grateful that you are interested in Revit and Building Information Modeling and have chosen to visit my channel in search of that information. Whether you are a student, a professional, or both, I hope the site can offer value to your everyday life.
I am a licensed architect and have worked in the field for over ten years now. When I began studying architecture in High School I was immediately drawn to the convergence of technology, design, and practice.

Can you do in Archicad halftone object or transparent object , make certain lines invisible ?
It amazes me how many people still use AutoCad for construction documents and on top of that want to sit there and say they are efficient…No way…Thank you for this
Cheers! I agree 100%
This is awesome
After annotations,if we change the cordinates & building angle ...did all annotations will disturb or it will remain same ??
duplicate vs duplicate detailing vs duplicate as a dependent ?
Im a bit late to this. regarding the overlapping viewports around @1:13:00. overlapping viewports doesn't work for me. The viewport in front masks the viewport behind. How do I manage to make the background of the viewport transparent? Seems this happens if the viewport contains any 3d view
sounds like a cool guy to know in person!
I agree... 😉
Are you able to do designs in board & Barton walls? Something custom and not typical vertical lines and spacing. It is for an accent wall in a home
with BIM developers pricing policy the smaller firms will never switch to the technology. ua-cam.com/video/WWnKN36n-9c/v-deo.html& guess I'll stick to 2d gstarcad and blender for the rest of my life
Please you can try use commands in keyboard for revit in iPad in next video?
you are using model elements as an input for family instance which is not working for me
If I have an existing building before creating new option for massing addition, where should I put the existing building? Do I also create an option for the whole existing building?
15 years later and this tutorial still works
Wild right!?!?
Highfi 🎉🎉
Such a beautiful vedio ❤❤
hi I went to every single step it didn't work for me , please guide me
good day please help me to learn revit,, im from philippines anf im a architectural drafting..ahmm can i join your live thanks
As an Architect, I have spent approximately 7 years in Archicad and 7 years in Revit. In my opinion, Archicad is geared towards DESIGNERS, whereas Revit is geared towards ENGINEERS. Archicad shines for design conceptualization and visualization. 2D programatic studies with colored fills and zones are quick and easy, the 3D modeling tools and fun and intuitive, and I can create dynamic presentation boards directly on the layouts, without requiring InDesign or other software. However, the documentation tools are more primitive, creating custom objects can be a chore, and somehow it's easy to draw walls off by fractions of an inch. Revit, on the other hand, shines for documentation and coordination. Objects host to one another, dimensioning is more precise and dynamic, and family creation is limitless, so you can customize objects specific to your project with parametric settings. However, the sheet layouts are clunky, the 3D navigation is primitive, and iterative design is challenging, because everything breaks and you get errors everytime you want to "play around" with your design. This is why I believe that smaller firms prefer Archicad, whereas larger firms prefer Revit. Archicad is easier for "one-man-shops" where you just want one software to do everything. Whereas, Revit is better for huge, mega-projects, where all your Engineers are on the Autodesk suite and coordination/precision is paramount. However, for Rthose mega projects, Schematic Design is typically done is Sketchup or Rhino, the presentation boards are done in InDesign or Photoshop, and Revit is just used for coordination and CD's.
this kind of video can be a lot shorter and more effective if you can have your guest start example project from zero and explain different sharing options.
You guys have it all wrong! As an architect that uses both ArchiCAD and Revit you must experience what it is like to work in the other person’s application of choice. I say you need to both start with the same model (say an as-built of a real world house) then agree on a design for an addition. You must link-in the as-built as a reference file, then begin assembling the various components in the other person’s preferred software. All doors and windows must be different and unique. The addition must be multiple stories and stairs need to have open ballisters. You must produce both floor plans, along with three elevations and a 3D render. There must be door and window schedules and type elevations and head, jamb and sill details. You each have a week to produce your set of drawings. Then and only then will you both understand the differences. I am not sure if Autodesk has a trial package, but I do know they don’t offer a version for Apple-based hardware. Then compare the cost of each license. You can’t leave that factor out of the picture. While Graphisoft has perpetual licenses now, they will be jumping on the subscription bandwagon soon.
Curtain walls are not powerful the person using them are 😮
😎😎
Just when I was struggling... perfect and well detailed 👍👍👍
ive been one that had questions john Pee answered. thanks john for Rythm
john Pee 🤣
hey can we make webhook api calls with openai api and have voice to bim ? maybe change parametric design based on input voice and n8n automations ?
🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Can you pls make a video on how to import 3D view of revit into power BI and create a dashboard of material qty? It would great help if you can do that, Thanks.
Um... that is exactly what this video is.....?
It reminds me of the "prefab" feature in Unity, where all the prefabs can be generated as many times as you want. You can also break the connection to create an independent instance of a new model.
It is cathartic to see someone who’s seemingly very experience with this software also having to just jimmy rig this kind of stuff together, and shrugging away the many shortfalls of every function in this software and brute forcing solutions left and right
Welcome to using any software!
@@TheRevitKid I dream of a world where a $3000 annual license affords you something that works as intended.
@@matthewraye64 capitalism my friend. 🤷🏻♂️
Thank you so very much. I've never 'more or less' had the courage to truly go ahead and just start learning it. I've always stared at for it and found it way to complex, only by looking at it and making use of the scripts of colleages of me, not knowing how the script was composed.
Cheers! So glad it helped!
I wish you actually ran the steps to the setup
I didn't? Pretty sure I did.....?
I am using Revit 2024 .I would like to export 3d room tags into Navisworks but When attempting to create dynamo script I couldn’t locate the correct “family by point “
Didn’t know Matt Damon knew Revit, great vid!
🧐🧐
AI render is great but if it allow to designers to control material & light, will be accurate, but this way it is just for fun & nice shots
You are a legend! Greetings from Panamá
🤘
Awesome session
Why don't they both come together and create a master software like Dynahopper that has all the functions in one place? It's nightmare to learn all the softwares
..... why?
What about lumion on ipad pro?❤
Yes, anything that runs on windows can be ran on an ipad using this method.....
Hi, sorry for the delay, I just saw it. Unfortunately Lumion doesn't work for me through the paralel. And I invested a lot of money, in your software it will work for sure?
muy buen capitulo me queda clarisimo que me cambio a revit 2025 en los proximos proyectos! gracias!
Autodesk is trash. I only need recap pro for 1 day. Installed a trial, STILL had to pay $50 and THEN instead of paying $3 per token (I only need 5 tokens, it tells me), the minimum is $300. WONDERFUL!! I'm definitely gonna go a different route than this POS
Hey Jeffrey and John, thanks for the lovely stream! Is there any news for Dynamo in Civil 3D? I barely see the updates on the internet except for the Civil3D toolkit.
The current rumor is, Civil3d is supposed to get a lot of new nodes here soon! Many of which are civil3d toolkit nodes being absorbed.
празни приказки!
you should use 2 lights and also softbox for harsh lights
Добрый день! У вас в солибри есть свойство "layer" как его экспортировать из Ревита?
I workaround I have used (which can also be a pain) is to set the link you don't want to tag as an underlay and use the tag all function and include links. If a link is set to underlay Revit won't include it or objects in it when using the tag all command.
extremely long winded
basically the 1st method does not work if the angle is too steep, and the 2nd does not work quite well......
I got the impression that the guest spoke less than the channel host. The poor man wanted to continue with his demonstration and was interrupted, I think, too many times. But in the end I think it was a very useful live show. Congratulations on the work.
So…. You gained value either way? 🤪
@@TheRevitKid yes I did, thank you very much for what youre doing.
You can make a multi-category schedule which includes all the element categories in one schedule without missing anything if you are making structural plans. You just have to do a material takeoff schedule. I have done it for numerous projects and it works. Didn't need to touch dynamo or anything else . Just Revit.
I have a laptop with no GPU. Revit works fine. I need nothing more. (I do not make any renderings. Only design and technical drawings.)
OMG, alabaster on a lathe with not even a dust mask. (I am apparently too contemporary in my sensibilities to enjoy anything anymore.) Sorry, back to your BIM content, carry on.
haha I was thinking the same thing… maybe people lungs are just made of alabaster in Volterra.
